The Yorkshire Dales Cycleway takes you on a fantastic tour of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
There is no better way of exploring this wonderful countryside than by travelling through it on two wheels. A leisurely week will enable most cyclists to take on the challenge of the full 210km ( 130mile ) route, or spend a weekend doing just a section of the Cycleway.
The route takes you through the dramatic limestone scenery in the south of the Park, including the impressive cliffs at Malham Cove and Kilnsey Crag, past areas of limestone pavement and through areas of extensive cave systems. The landscape to the north is equally striking with the valleys having distinctive stepped profiles, and seperated by high heather moorlands.
Throughout the area an intricate network of dry stone walls create a patchwork of fields, many of which are scattered with stone barns. A landscape instantly recognisable as The Dales.
The route takes through many of the charming villages and small market towns for which The Dales are famous, and which provide a warm welcome and chance to stop and relax before the next stage of your journey.
There are some challenging climbs through wild areas which will test your limits, swooping the descents and stunning quiet dales to explore. The route follows quiet country lanes for it's length, including many where you will see more sheep than cars.
Being a circular route you can start and finish wherever you wish. The official start is in Skipton with an alternative beginning in Ilkley ; there is easy access to either location by train. From Leeds to Skipton and Ilkley the trains carry bikes at no charge and with no need to book, although it is worth avoiding rush hour services.
The famous Leeds - Settle - Carlisle line will take you to Settle, Clapham and Dent stations. Again, bikes are carried free but it is advisable to book on these services.
There is also the Wensleydale Railway from Leeming Bar to Leyburn and Redmire, which carries bikes free of charge in the guard's van.

With the Tour De France starting in the Yorkshire Dales on 5th July 2014, there has never been a better time to take to your bike and explore the same wonderful countryside that will be experienced by the world's best road cyclists - although I would suggest at a more leisurely pace !
Of course, you can stay at Cecilia House where we can provide secure storage for your bikes. We look forward to seeing you.
